My Tube Gun Project
Remington 700 PPS 308, 26 inch barrel put in a MAC Enterprises Tube Gun Kit.
It is now a 6BR with a 30 inch Pac Nor barrel, Centra rear sights, and a Scott
Riles Tall Boy front sight.

I will be shooting this set up for the first time 03/15/03.
Report to follow.

Hi,
Took the new Tube Rem 700 308 out to shoot Sat at Malabar 3 x 600.
Went with no zero and ammo once fired in old chamber. We bore sighted
the scope on the bench and then I want up 20 inches. I was on relay 1,
so I set up to shoot. Things start out pretty good. First sighter was a
10, second sighter was an X. So I went for it. I shoot a 185 with 5 X ,
and I knew the low score was all me.
I needed to take the rifle to the range and get it set up for me. I
was never sure about the LOP and the handstop. It just did not seem
right. I played with them though the string and and the rifle shot where
ever I pointed it. All in all I was pretty happy with the way things
were going. I had a borrowed sling from German, that was 30 years old.
It had a small tear when he lent it to me, now it has a bigger tear. I
took it off and went to a web M1 sling I had with me.
I started to shoot the second string with the web sling, and I had
repositioned the scope trying to get comfy behind the rifle. Well
something was all wrong. First shot was a 7 at 12, second shot was a 7
at 6 O clock. It took a few more shots to figure out, but the scope went
south. The Elev. knob just turned and I guess the reticule just floated.
It was high at 12 and then low at 6. I shot a 142, and ask for a DNF.
From what I could tell the Tube and action were shooting really well.
The once fired brass was fired in the old chamber, which was a factory
chamber which I have been told is a long chamber. The gunsmith that put
me in the Tube used a medium or standard 308 reamer to rechamber the
barrel when set it back. I had a little trouble opening the bolt after
firing, which I think was because I was shooting what I had already
loaded in the once fired brass. I am going to set back my resizer die
and see what happens with the brass fired this weekend.
I am ordering a new scope and will try to get the LOP and Handstop
set up and adjusted for me, before the weekend.

I have been
improving both my XC scores and my long range scores. I think I owe this to
shooting my TubeGun with a scope. Because the TubeGun is set up like my AR, A2
buttstock and pistol grip, and front hand guard. Others have talked about
using a 22 with a scope, but I do not have one. But shooting the TubeGun set
up like my AR is doing the same thing.
Someone once told
me if I wanted to improve me XC scores improve my prone scores, it's 50% of
the match. Well shooting 600 with a long range rifle set up just like my AR is
helping me improve my prone scores with my AR.
Ok and for those
of you who will say the match is won or lost in offhand, I will not disagree,
and I think I will even shot my Tubegun offhand with the scope, to see where
my hold needs work.

I just got this photo from MAK Enterprises of the new repeating model. Its
all most ready to be anodized, and should be going into production some time
soon.

Looking for the right cleaning rod guide for the TubeGun? Check this
one out!

- It comes with a solvent port!
- And is a lot longer!
Here it is with some other .30 rod guide.
Here is how Anna makes them!
Got the new Tubegun 6BR bore guide from First Strike!

This is what the standard Remington looks like. You can clean with the scope
in place.

Ok,
I got to test some loads today. Remember I am just an expert, having taken
the better part of the year off from shooting. These were shot with irons off
the mat with a sling. These were shot on a MR31/600 yd reduced targets at 100
yards.
Started out with 5 rounds of 28 gr Varget, then went up by 5 gr's 10 rounds
each to 31.5. Ran out of time at 31.0gr. No scope, and no rest.
My rifle liked two loads, from what I could tell! 28.5gr and 30.0gr! 29 and
29.5 didn't group as well.

Shoot a string with the scope, and 30 grains of Varget, and shot 198-9X
