When I can get away , my favorite spot to go lobstering and spear fishing is the DRY TORTUGAS in the Florida Keys, which is the home of Fort Jefferson , although most of the time I'm diving the waters off Pompano Beach Fl. Growing up in Ft. Lauderdale Fl. I spent a lot of time on the water.

After high school I enlisted in the USCG for four years, which I spent in the seventh district. Serving on 30 &40 foot rescue boats in San Juan P.R. for a year, then I tried light house duty on LIGHT STATION MONA ISLAND. That little thing on the top in the back is the lighthouse.

And boy was the diving great there!

After that I came to Miami were I was stationed on the buoy tender HOLLYHOCK, which was later sunk off Pompano Beach and renamed THE GOOD NEWS MISSION SHIP and is now a artificial reef.

Although I had been diving for years,I took my first diving course in 1974 at Brevard Comm. college, later I achieved the rating of PADI DIVE MASTER in 1988, and have been diving these waters since 1964. By the way my love of diving was handed down from my father who was a hard hat diver in the U.S. navy during ww2, he was doing deep wreck diving about the time I was born, and I'm 47 now.

Some of my favorite wreck dives in Broward County are the " MILLER LITE " that sits in about 125 feet, and " THE JAY DORMAN " that sits in 75 feet. Also a lobster hole named after a old friend and instructor " CHARLIE'S PIPES " and a lot of lobster have come off that spot over the years. In the Key's I like the "Dwane" and the "Bib" Coast Guard sister ships off Key Largo. When the seas are up and I can not go diving you'll find me working/playing at my computer.
